San Antonio Trip

A couple weeks ago, Brett and I both had 2 days off together so we decided to head to San Antonio! We had an interesting trip, although Brett got very sick while we were there and we spent a few hours at an Urgent Care center.
Kayla had woken up pretty early the morning we were leaving and wouldn't go back to sleep, so we just decided to get up and get an early start. We got on the road about 7:00 AM. We first decided to stop at an old Spanish  Mission.

This old church was really cool!

She thought for a minute to decide what her
wish should be.

"Mom, its a really good wish!"
After we left the mission, we headed to the Japanese Sunken Tea Garden. I was so glad that Brett found this place! It was amazing!! It was a beautiful day and this place is such a hidden gem. Its right off the freeway, near the San Antonio Zoo, but you'd never know you were in the middle of a major city once you get inside. I couldn't believe how awesome this place was! If you live nearby and haven't been, you need to check it out!
At the entrance, I loved the flowers!

We came up some stairs and found this view!

Sometimes, you have to nurse on a bench cut out of a mountain covered by exotic plant life. :)

Kayla LOVES riding on our shoulders.

In front of the big waterfall! It was really tall.
The picture doesn't do justice.

She loved the fish. She was squealing with delight watching them!

There were stairs everywhere and they were all
cut out of the mountain
After we left the tea garden, we went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch. While there, Brett started getting phone calls and emails about a story that he had done. It was a stressful couple of days trying to deal with some unfortunate misunderstandings regarding the story, but thankfully, all was resolved. Also, right after lunch, Brett started feeling sick. We had both had colds for a few days, but were starting to feel better the day before we left, so we decided to go ahead with the trip. That afternoon, we decided to check out the outlet malls north of San Antonio. We spent a few hours wandering around wondering why everyone raved about these outlets when they were mediocre at best. When we reached the end, we looked across the street and saw the NEW outlets. We were already exhausted and stressed, but those outlets were AMAZING! We did a little shopping there, but it was getting late so we headed to our hotel. Too bad, we wasted all our time and energy at the wrong outlets. Live and learn. :)

That night, Brett couldn't eat any dinner and crashed in bed at the hotel. Kayla would not sleep in her pack in play and cried much of the night. Brett also woke up really really sick during the night. Needless to say, it was a LONG night. Good thing the bed was comfortable! We got up and headed to the temple anyway. We hardly get to go anymore and its so far away that we couldn't pass up the chance to go. An old friend of mine from the Poky days now lives in San Antonio and she watched Kayla for us so we could do a session together. Only the 2nd time together since Kayla was born. Despite being sick, Brett felt better during the session, thankfully. I really felt like the adversary was doing his best to keep us from the temple. We had plenty of reason not to go, but my faithful husband never questioned whether or not we would go. I have a good husband. The session was wonderful and we received a lot of peace and comfort from being there.

After we picked Kayla up, we headed to the Urgent Care because Brett started feeling really sick again. They thought he had flu, but the test was negative. We were there for almost 3 hours. We then picked up some prescriptions and headed home. By this time, we were all tired and ready to be home. It was a long drive. It was definitely not the best trip we had, but I'm thankful we were able to spend time together as a family and especially thankful we were able to attend the temple. Brett was sick for another five days or so and had to work the whole time, but he's  back to his normal self again!
